Earlier this summer, Stellantis and the UAW welcomed Detroit City Councilwoman Latisha Johnson and members of the neighboring community to visit the Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack plant.
The plant briefing and tour included an overview of the company’s operations and an update on the many Stellantis projects in the community including the recent completion of the mural along Beniteau Street from Warren to Kercheval. The company also shared an update on the Advanced Manufacturing Academy at Southeastern High School.
Community members were engaged and asked questions to plant and UAW leadership. The tour included a visit to the assembly line and the new regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO), installed to address odor concerns. The RTO is an air pollution control device that destroys volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) and odors from a painting process through high temperature thermal oxidation. The RTO recovers over 90% of the heat used in the process, making it very efficient and reducing the amount of natural gas required to operate.
