The most recent Stellantis quarterly air monitoring data demonstrates that the air quality in the area continues to meet the standards for the analytes tested, according to the monitoring station on the Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack property. It meets National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for Particulate Matter smaller than 2.5 microns (PM2.5) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2). Additionally, ambient air volatile organic compound (VOC) testing continues to show that no VOCs are present in the air at a concentration above, or even close to, their respective Michigan Air Toxics Screening Levels.
Mack Update:
We are pleased to have finalized a settlement with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Air Quality Division to resolve ducting and odor issues at the Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack plant. With this agreement, construction of a new regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO), which is part of our long-term odor control plan, has begun. We have committed to having the RTO fully operational by June 30, 2023. In addition, work on the supplemental environmental project to install a new building management system at Southeastern High School is expected to begin in the first half of 2023. We want to thank you, our neighbors, for your patience in giving us the opportunity to resolve this issue.
Jefferson Update:
Recently, the Detroit Assembly Complex – Jefferson plant received a violation notice for exceeding its emissions per vehicle permitted limit. Since retooling the plant earlier this year, it has been operating at lower than normal volumes as it ramps up production of the new Jeep® Grand Cherokee and continues to be impacted by the ongoing global microchip shortage. The reduced production volume means that total VOC emissions from the facility are actually well below permitted allowable emission rate; however, emissions per vehicle have increased because fewer vehicles are being produced. The plant’s painting processes and emissions controls are functioning properly, and there is no increased exposure risk to the community. We are working to address this issue.
