A new sign at E. Warren Ave. and St. Jean St. marks the entrance to the Detroit Assembly Complex - Mack plant, where the all-new three-row Jeep® Grand Cherokee L and next generation Jeep Grand Cherokee are built. Launched in March 2021, the company invested $1.6 billion to build the first new assembly plant in the city of Detroit and create 3,850 new jobs.
Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex has been a major economic engine for the city of Detroit, according to the 2025 Annual City Revenue Report recently submitted to City Council in accordance with the project’s development agreement. Since operations began in 2020, the project has generated nearly $64 million in revenue for the city, exceeding the $57.4 million stipulated in the development agreement.
The project also has benefitted the city and the surrounding community in other ways, including:
In 2019, Stellantis (then FCA) announced that it would invest $2.5 billion to convert the former Mack Avenue Engine Complex into a new assembly plant and retool the Jefferson North Assembly Plant to support production of the next-generation Jeep® Grand Cherokee, as well as an all-new three-row full-size Jeep SUV and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. When the new facility opened in late 2020, it was the first new assembly plant in Detroit in 30 years.
