While collecting input from the community for suggestions for the next phase of the mural outside the Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack plant, Dr. Hubert Massey paid a visit to Southeastern High School on May 19.
There, the fresco muralist met with a classroom full of students who have an interest in the arts and were eager to share their ideas. “What inspires you?” Dr. Massey asked the class.
The school’s history, its lion mascot, the school motto “Finish What You Begin,” and Southeastern’s unique career pathways offered to students were just some of the suggestions made by the teens.
Following an art lesson and some inspirational words from Dr. Massey, the students were asked for one word that represents their school. Answers included: “Family. Welcoming. Colorful. Tough. Unity. Strength.”
“I think that’s awesome,” said Dr. Massey, who will incorporate some of the students’ suggestions into the next phase of the mural.
