For the first time since 2010, Detroit Assembly Complex – Jefferson will have an extended shut down. The 30-year-old plant has halted production for eight weeks to retool and modernize the facility as part of a $900 million investment to launch production of the fifth-generation Jeep® Grand Cherokee and continue building the Dodge Durango. The projectrepresents the final phase of the $4.5 billion commitment the company made to Michigan in 2019.

First introduced in 1992 when it crashed through the glass at the former Cobo Hall, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has gone on to set a new industry benchmark and become the most awarded SUV ever. With nearly 7 million vehicles rolling off the assembly line, the flagship of the Jeep brand, now in both two- and three-row versions, has proudly made Detroit its home for more than three decades. Production at Jefferson is expected to resume at the end of May.
